im looking to get a MBP for college, and i was wondering if it would be possible to kill two birds with one stone here and somehow connect it to cable so i wouldnt have to bring a TV.

I just bought the Elegato EyeTV... got a great deal at www.mac-pro.com from a company in San Jose (I actually went and picked it up from them). It's great, gives you HD programming over the air (or if you plug it into cable tv it can decode that too).

Elgato's EyeTV is definitely the way to go, not to mention the software that is bundled with it (also developed by Elgato) allows you to pretty much use your Mac as a DVR, as well as encode the content into other formats, like H.264, for example.

I highly recommend it - I've had one for a couple of years and love it!

Check the Marketplace forum, too - someone just had one for sale for $100 that was only a month or two old.
