I don't believe you can watch your camera roll through a TV. You certainly can't see the homescreen or anything. The iPhone's that are used in the Apple keynotes have been modified to display the screen - unfortunately, normal iPhones don't have that capability.

You are correct. I have a cable similar to the one mentioned above, and it doesn't allow videos or pictures on the camera roll to be displayed on the TV. It works great for videos in the iPod app and Netflix though.

Yes, Apple makes a cable just for that purpose

This will work for watching your videos from your Camera Roll, as well as Movies/TV Shows/Podcast and listening to Music from your iPod App and also with online videos like YouTube and Live Video Streams.

Link says error

sorry, i just tried the link and it worked for me, its basically the same cable as the apple one but 1/2 the price.

http://www.sw-box.com/

i just ordered from them and its about 2 weeks for shipping but pretty good stuff i thought for the price. I'm sure there are other cheap places too that have similar cables. If anyone has more info i'd like to hear more about them too.

Another option is sending music/photos/movies/TV shows from your iPhone to an Apple TV 2 via Airplay.

Of course, if you want to mirror your dip lay for games and such, You'll need to jailbreak.
