Is there anyway to stay signed off on FB app?

I have the new FB app though it seems there is no option to log off of chat. Do such an option exist?

I can only imagine with the new update hat whenever you're in the app you're automatically logged on to chat,,,and it's something I wish to avoid...seems pointless to log onto chat even for a minute when quickly sending a message or something else within Facebook and it's app.
