I'm going on a trip for 3 months and I do not want to pay international roaming for my watch, so it would be really annoying having a red 'x' on the 12 o'clock position every time I look at my watch if I were to disable cellular service. Is there a work around or trick to disable this on WatchOS17? On another note if I were to cancel cellular service with ATT would I have to pay a reactivation fee if I want to turn it on again? And if cancelling cellular service turn the watch into GPS only which turns off the red 'x'?

You should only see the red X if cellular is turned off and your phone is also off or unavailable (out of wifi / bluetooth range)

Also - maybe turn off "Data Roaming" in Settings->Cellular on the watch and thus retain emergency calling capability?

I initially turned of cellular at LAX, but now at BKK the X showed up. I think it has to do with the fact that the shared number can no longer be accessed since I turned off the ATT esim when I switched to the Thai simcard. Also I don't think cellular works at all seeing that the AWU1 I have only works on US/Canada's baseband(IDK about the AWU2).

I guess I'll just have to live with the 'x'.

Don’t worry about roaming as roaming on the watch is like jumping thru hoops. It doesn’t really work.
