when you are trying to format it from Mac OS environment?

By the way what would be the name for a Windows only partition?
I know for Mac only it's Journaled.

I thought exfat is not very secure though.
There’s no “secured” file system. Data security on external drive mostly rely on encryption.
EXFAT, being a non-journal file system, suffers serious issue of data corruption when something bad happens during transfer. It’s compatibility isn’t as amazing as fat32, and file system performance imo is not very great. This file system is ok if you don’t want to pay for third party drivers to access files or don’t use Windows machine that often.
