I picked up a prepaid iPhone SE to use a backup device because I traded in my last phone, I always like to keep a backup just in case (in fact I needed one last week and didn’t have one, that’s what spurred me to get this). It was new in box from Best Buy. When I go to plug in the Lightning port to charge, it doesn’t make a firm ‘click’, and it feels kind of mushy plugging it in, but it still charges and the connection doesn’t appear loose. Is this cause for concern?

As a matter of fact, the first XR that I had before I exchanged it for an unrelated issue had the same thing new out of the box.

As long as it inserts fully, is not loose and charges, I would be happy.
It’s firm, surprisingly quite firm. It just feels weird plugging it in, sometimes have to do it twice for some piece of mind or something. There’s no SE to exchange to at this point in 2019. I actually purchased AppleCare so if anything comes up along the line at least it’s covered for two years, but it seems to work so I guess there’s no reason to worry.

Just need to do the mandatory six months of service to unlock it and it’ll be good to go!

Enjoy! I have friends who like their SE so much they have bought extra units when a good one is found.

It’s funny, I’ve been using my 32GB SE a bit more recently than my 128GB XR. I tried buying used but there wasn’t anything in the condition I wanted on Swappa, so I tried eBay and the so-called ‘excellent’ condition phone that I got had scratches all over the screen and couldn’t pass the audio diagnostic at Apple (meaning their Lightning dock didn’t recognize it). So I just decided to try and find a new one which at this point only exists for prepaid. At least it’s AT&T Prepaid and not TracFone or Total Wireless or whatever that require a full year of service and they MIGHT unlock it.

I’m assuming that you’re using an OEM charger cable by Apple. It could be just a slight tolerance difference with the charging port, but as long as it’s a tight connection and it charges consistently, it’s a non-issue.

It's no problem. I had iPhones that didn't make the clicking sound when plugging in. As long as it charges it should be ok.
