I'd love for there to be an actual quantitative analysis between the LG and Samsung displays. I hear this and that either way, saying they're equal or different.

No matter how many threads are made, more are coming up about it constantly. Or it'll become a focal point of discussion in a thread which isn't even quite about the displays.

So what I'm hoping is if there are some people who have actually compared the displays side-by-side to actually give their analysis. I know there was one who did this, and they said they were identical... this was in a thread I can't seem to find (because I'm lazy) from a few days ago. So there's point 1 for the logic-inclined consumers. And 0 points for the phobiacs.

I've compared mine to my friend's samsung display and I do have to admit its a bit disappointing. I'm the guy who did the yellow tint test on his iMac, noticed it was indeed tinted but didn't care so much because the display still looked great. But my Air's screen does look fairly washed out and I probably will return it. I don't think I'd have noticed so much if it weren't for someone suggesting I compare it to my iMac's display with different wallpapers - then I noticed the difference.

Anyway I've ordered an 11 inch which is arriving tomorrow (still not too sure which size is best for me) and I'll be sure to compare the two if its a samsung display.

Abandon all hope, ye that seeks truth from the internets

Zboater's given the best advise I've seen on this topic so far "Move along there's nothing to see here" That's not an actual quote but I think that it sums up what he said.

Madness? THIS IS...

...well ridiculous, so you are right.
The thing I cant understand is that a lot of people say they saw a Samsung display and a week after they saw the LG and it's "inferior".
If so many people really had a photographic memory, 50% of the worlds population would be genius.

I have a 256 i7 13" with SS SSD.

Where can I find the screen manufacturer? Going mental looking for it.

Look in the thread on page 1 or 2 titled "Post your screen & SSD model here" <-- something to that effect (you'll know the title when you see it).

On page 1 someone posts what you need to do in order to find out your screen model. There's a code you can enter into Terminal.

madness loves company:

1) Go into Applications
2) Go into Utilities Folder
3) Select terminal.app
4) Copy and paste this into the line:
ioreg -lw0 | grep IODisplayEDID | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

5) Displays:
LT = Samsung
LP = LG

If screen matters get a 15" Pro, they look great in all tests.

The Air, both screens types, are lacking in depth/range of color,
small text looks soft/not sharp as well, never could compare LG / Samsung side by side
but neither compared to the Pros on display.

It's still an incredible device but its screen is not its best feature?

the best way to put an end to it is to simply enjoy what you got and don't look at what model you get.

I have a 2010 11" Macbook Air and I get the following result:
C592M9CN3H9L

What screen do I have?

Why is apple even using two different displays?
Isn't that counter productive?
Aren't you suppose to strike a deal with a company, buy in bulk, assemble for profit?
