is this a bug? Re:spaces

The keyboard shortcut to go to the spaces on the right works, but the keyboard shortcut taking you to spaces to the left does not. Is this a known bug? (It shows as enabled under System Preferences.)

I called Apple and they said it was my system so they had me reinstall Yosemite. Since this was going to take a while we ended the call.

But I still have the problem. It was working before the first update to Yosemite. Does anybody know? Please advise, thank you.

Now I have a problem with switching from one app to another with command+tab. When I try to go from an app on the desktop to a space with Safari, it opens up Safari as if it were a minimized window! What I mean by that is the context menu at the top of the desktop changes to Safari but doesn't actually open up Safari.

So for now I've given up on spaces. Anybody?
