Not 2014, sorry, 2015

Price: $1800

It's from the official apple store

Specs: i7 3.1GhZ/512GB/16GB RAM

In my opinion, no. Not too long ago, Apple was selling refurbished 2015 15-inch MacBook Pros with a 2.5 i7 quad/16GB/512SSD/2 GB dGPU for a little under $2,000, which is a much more capable machine for nearly the same price.

In the U.S. store, that exact refurb was going for US$1700 about a week ago. I think I remember that you're not in the U.S. so pricing may not be comparable. Thinking bigger picture, the 2015 is still a very capable machine. It has "real" ports. It has MagSafe. It doesn't have cooling problems. It has a normal keyboard that won't break next week. So maybe the question is: do you need a new computer right now, or can you wait to see what Apple introduces in 2018?

Im not holding my breath for what they will do in 2018...frankly, I'll be stunned if they reverse course....it will be the same old **** keyboard and no ports, but with juiced up internals.

The specs being offered with the refurb i quoted will probably result in a really fast machine...and my uses are not heavy. I also like weird things like not having a macbook pro logo staring at me in reverse white.

I just think the money grubbers have realised that many people like the ports on 2015 so they are jacking up the asking prices.

Are they still selling refurb 2015's (beyond that 2.2ghz 15" range)?

I may need to pick up another if so - I'm honestly worried these will be my last MacBooks' as they've so torpedoed all that I loved about them.

In MY opinion it is a very good deal! I just bought this model 3 months ago for about 2.200 Euro in a german apple store. Coming from a 2014 15" 750m I can say - go for it!

They are still showing up periodically in the US Apple store online. I would guess they are still showing up in other countries as well.

Yes, exact the same specs. But it was brand new and here in germany every apple product is more expensive than in the US. I really like this machine.

I know I'm repeating myself, but I do too. It has a real keyboard. It has great build quality. It may not be a MacBook, but it's still quite thin and light. It has MagSafe charging. It has HDMI, USB-A and TB ports and a card slot. It has the ForceTouch trackpad which I think is absolutely fabulous. It has good runtime and cools itself nicely and quietly.

Yes, bought one a week ago (US). I agree...but hopefully by 2018 or 2019 they will figure this out. I have to say that the 2017s are, in the store, very seductive. Thin and light has lots of problems, but if you don't have to live with them these are really slick machines. The 15" rMBP always struck me as a big machine to carry around, but the 2017 is almost small enough to replace a 13". There are problems with making that machine so thin and so light...but presumably Apple will figure this out after a few more years.

That is great...I am surprised you found it new as I always assumed this configuration is a build to order.

The one Im referring to is also "new" but comes from the refurbished area.

As a corporate client - at least at my place - you can ask for an old model within the apple store. They try to find one if it is in stock anywhere. This was suggested to me by apple store staff when I told him I did not like the new models especially the keyboard and touch bar.

Yes, all confirmed!
