Someone is offering $500 for a powermac g5 with these specs:

Apple G5 1.8Mhz single processor

200Gig HD

1.0Gig RAM

DVDR/CDR drive

Dual video card

no other accesories

these machines can go for 700 - 900. but it is not unheard of to get it for 500. it's a good deal. i am using one now. and i love it. runs wow pretty well. i use to have a dual 1.25 g4. this machine is much faster.

That's a VERY good deal! Who's selling it though? I hope you know them. This could be a scam.

no I dont know them, but it's a local thing...i'd test out everything before buying it...does anyone know what this powermac g5 is good for? i mean their capacity...thanks!

its one of the crippled single processors. if you can help it, find a dualie.

not all single processors were "crippled." Try to find out if this is the 900 mhz front side bus version with 8 RAM slots (as opposed to the later, crippled, 600 mhz/4 RAM slot version).

I used to have a non-crippled single 1.8 Ghz G5, and it was a really great machine. I think I'd have it still if USPS hadn't smashed it in transit. :(

It looks like a pretty good price. Though not unbelievably low especially for a local sale.

Just look at the system profiler to check the specs.

Test everything you can. All of the ports firewire, usb, ethernet, audio etc. Ask the seller it they have the Apple Hardware Test CD.

If everything seems functional and there are no unusual noises then buy it.
