I saw on apple.com a refurb 15.4 in. MBP 2.6 ghz, 200gb 7200 rpm, nvidia geforece 8600 with 512 mb, only 2 gb but can easily upgrade. For 1799.00, Any thoughts? Good deal or stay away from?

Check out other Mac resellers, they're selling new "older" models and refurbs for cheaper than Apple, and many have no sales tax, and a bunch of stuff like printer and Parallels free after rebate.

i looked on a few other places the same one new was 2400? moneys a bit tight so is the 1799 one a good deal performance wise

at the apple store you can get a 2.4 penryn MBP, 200 gig HD, 256 8600m card for $1,350. This seemed like the best deal to me.
