Is this a good deal?

Apologies as this isn't DIRECTLY Mac related, but I will be hooking it up to my MBP, so...


Our local electronics store is having a sale this weekend on a 50" Plasma HDTV. We really need a new TV, and we're thinking this would be a great buy.

Initially I was stoked with the $999 asking price, but apparently it's only 720p. Is that much of a deal? Will it look stretched with my 720p content? Is it even a deal with 720p?

How much would a 50" 1080p Plasma go for?

That's not a deal at all. Checking BestBuy.com shows a number of 50" 720p sets and all were under $999. (Went as low as $750)

Their cheapest 50" 1080p set was a Samsung and it was $1050.

So to answer you question, no what you found isn't much of a deal.
