Freecom are the supercheapo brand that you see everywhere and I certainly wouldn't want to trust any precious data to one but 40 quid is probably as cheap as you'll find and the specs are decent enough.

If you can raise the extra money I'd recommend this Seagate which is a good deal for the most respected drive manufacturer.

to be fair that drive was actually about £90 6 months ago so it is only that cheap because it is quite old.

That Freecom external thing has a Hitachi drive in it. My bro. has one, replacement for his Packard Bell (with a seagate HDD in it), but AFAIK Hitachi aint so great.
