I cannot justify the retina, sure it's pretty but the soldered on components? NOOOOO WAAAY.

I was thinking of getting the 2.3ghz base 15" model with an anti glare screen (or is the gloss upgrade ok, thoughts?)

I'd then replace the 4GB RAM with a 16GB set, the 500GB HDD with a 256gb (or 512) SSD.

Is it also worth removing the optical drive for a 1TB HDD? Is it possible on MacBooks to have the OS and program's on the SSD and then most other files and media on the HDD?

So surely it's be better to prepare now? I would get the retina but I can't afford the 16GB ram upgrade
