my general rule of thumb is, if it seems to good to be true, it most likely is....atleast on the internet.

Maybe a bit sinical up for something like a car, I wouldn't risk 3K...but I have no idea about car prices, so its possible its legit. Still my gut would say no.

I sent an email basically saying where and when, and got this reply

Hi there,
Thank you for contacting me regarding my car.
First of all I want to tell you that the car is in perfect condition,
and the price includes all the shipping costs and insurance so you
will not have to pay any extra charges. The car has a Clean Tittle
which will come along with it.I am at my son here in Utah , Ephraim.
The car is with me here and is in a perfect condition.
It's a great car,
I am devastated that I have to sell it but but i really need money for my son
because he is in the hospital,so I decided to sell it.
Tell me if there is anything else you would like to know about the car.
If u want to see more pictures of the car please ask me that !
Thank you for the interest you have shown in purchasing the car.
Please reply,
Regards,

I know it sounds fishy... is there anything I can do to verify that it is legit?

What should I reply back with?

If you can't go see it in person do not bother.

I am seeing these cars go for $8-10K at the used car lots so probably a scam.

DO NOT FALL FOR IT!!!

Look, someguy, I don't want to sound harsh, but anybody in Utah advertising a car on a local Flint MI Craigslist (with free shipping and insurance, yet)

IS A SCAMMER!

Why do you even have to ask?

Don't even bother looking at Craigslist ads if they are from out of area.

I didn't know he was in Utah until he replied to my email, which was after I created this thread.

It's a scam. Already playing on your sympathy to sucker you in... There is no way this guy is shipping you any car from Utah. Tell him you'll come see it and pick it up, he'll undoubtedly explain other complications...

Why do people even bother to start threads about this sort of thing? ;) The answer is always the same.... It should be a sticky: "Q: Is this a scam? A: Yep."

I feel the same way. Wouldn't have bothered if I'd known he was out of state.
