Please see the pics below. They are photos of my M1 Air screen when it is at the worst. Sometimes the lines are barely visible and varies over time so something is affecting it. I did not drop the screen, this become more and more evident out of nowhere.
Is it a software bug or is it time to change the screen?

Hard to say.

Can you back up your data and wipe the drive and reinstall MacOS? Then see if the banding is still present?

Also maybe before you wipe the drive even after warranty is over you can call apple and do a remote hardware diagnostics over the phone and check the screen.

If they don’t find any hardware issues then a clean wipe and reinstall should fix the problem.
