i need to know if this Transcend - 32 GB ExpressCard/34 Solid State Disk is as fast as having a build in SSD drive....

i have a 500GB hardrive in my macbook pro atm... slow 5400rpm for disk space.... but i am think of getting this 32gb SSD for the expresscard slot for loading couple games.... for faster loading speeds

Thanks

No express card slot isn't anywhere near the speed of a SATA connection inside your computer. And that particular drive is probably marginally faster than a USB thumb drive.

so do you think... it will be alot faster then my 5400rpm drive for read speeds ??

cheers karl

that SSD connects to the "usb part" of the express card slot the official speeds are:
Read up to 18MB/s, Write up to 8MB/s
which is ~ usb sticks (my contour usb thumbdrive claims 22mb/s and 15mb/s if I am not mistaken)
also my 5400rpm HDD can do 43MB/s (more than twice the SSD)
conclusion that SDD is ****, if you can cancel the order I'd rush and do that.

Check how it uses the ExpressCard. If you want something approaching a built-in SATA drive, it will need to use the slot in PCIe x1 mode, not USB mode.
