Then why is it so cheap? Also how high is the chance that it is in fact a hitachi
hard drive inside? It makes sense that it would be, but then I would think it would cost more

thats a good question, its not exactly a big drive and they probably want to get rid of older stock. im not sure how to check if the internal drive is Hitachi, you would most likely have to get the Serial Number and goolge it??
 
It's cheap because the enclosure is probably cheap and the drive itself is worth less. FYI, a bare 320GB Hitachi 5400 RPM drive is $59.99 after rebate or the 320GB Hitachi 7200 RPM drive is $69.99 after rebate (All American dollars). Newegg.ca Hitachi Drives. You might as well buy a higher quality enclosure and drive separately. Enclosure alone $27.95 from OWC or $109.99 after $20 rebate for the drive preinstalled. There are also other options if you want firewire in addition to USB. On the plus side, you can always switch the drives in the enclosure, put your drive in there to get the data off if your computer is having problems, and it is bus powered.
