Probably just how the screen is built. My old 12" PowerBook flickers on pattern 3.
 
Normal, even my 23" ACD does it but on a different inversion profile compared to my 17" UB.
 
it looks like it is normal from what people said in other threads. Though it is strange, that i never noticed this except with MBP. Never noticed it in my old Dell or IBM and to much lesser extent in black macbook :confused:

Each LCD uses a different inversion method/technique as described here:

This is not a fault with the screen, but enables you to find out which inversion scheme your screen uses.
 
My screen doesn't seem to flicker. Either that or I'm just not seeing what I'm supposed to see. Hmmm...
 
I guess you missed the notice where it said, "Warning do not click if you are sensitive to flicker" :D
