Well since 3.0 has been jailbroken already I am wondering right now very patiently and would like some help.

If the IPSW thing is already custom (jailbroken + baseband update w/e) and it is 3.0, can't I just keep all my files and settings just the way it is and go to itunes, option click UPDATE (not restore) and select the firmware file? It will upgrade to 3.0 and keep all my stuff like it were updating to stock firmware.

I havn't tried the updating part yet but I know without a doubt that option clicking works o.o someone who has too much time on there hands can try this please? This would solve the problem of all the people losing there basebands and jailbreaks cuz of not upgrading properly. I am on a 2G btw so I would like to know the restraints I would get from 3.0. I might as well wait til summer...

You can NEVER update to stock and keep your jailbreak or unlock.

You must have not read properly, I said option click update and select your pwned firmware, as in if my iphone is 2.1 and I want to upgrade to 2.2 without restoring/breaking unlock/jailbreak, then i select the 2.2 PWNEDPWNEDPWNED firmware (2.2) and click update.

Also thanks for the heads up, but I think it wasn't worth a post since I can see that with a quick search in the forums. Sherlock.

And I'll counter your rudeness with a rebuttal of logic.

3.0 hasn't been jailbroken yet, they won't be releasing the jailbreak until the official 3.0, and you'll probably have to do a clean update to get there.

Sorry once again, the reason of this post was to see if it is possible to update to a higher firmware that has been pwned, by option clicking update, and updating as you would to stock firmware, but in this case it is a jailbroken/unlocked firmware. What I need to know is if this would go ok without breaking your jailbreak/unlock and this would pretty much remove the need to restore (if it works).

Could you also the leave the 3.0 OS alone, I know you are very excited about it but it has pretty much nothing to do in my question, I just mentioned it as a future reference.

If you update to a Jailbroken firmware from a Jailbroken firmware you'll loose 500mb or more of space, but it should work. It's always recommended you do a restore to stock firmware before Jailbreaking again.

Thank you so much for your answer :) see how easy that was? [snip]

(on topic) But I think if we were able to not do the partition wipe out or whatever it is called then it wouldn't do it....err..

This is written like you believe you can update now to 3.0 on iTunes using a 3.0 custom IPSW ???

As far as I know, a custom 3.0 ISPW has not been released ??

Again, I used it as an example, you read about 3.0 but you didn't read about how it hasn't been released and that I am patiently waiting for it, so when it DOES come out we can upgrade to it without restoring. Get it? Why is everyone to LITERAL when I made the same post saying this is an example and still people think I am saying that I want to upgrade to 3.0 or something(?)...How lazy has this world gotten that they can't read a VIRTUAL image fully and THEN post.
