Is this guide for real? I have used this website to jailbreak stuff before and it has been decent. But with everyone saying that the 3GS not yet jb'd on 313, is this for reals?

Thanks!!

Hmm. I'm going to guess it's only for those with the old modem firmware (from 3.1.2), but we can't be sure because the posting is so vague.

However the guide was posted Feb 15th, so you can at least be sure this isn't a breaking development in the cracking of 3.1.3. I sure as heck wish it was though, with my Applecare'd 3GS sitting here with 3.1.3.

Yes, this is legit to an extent. Yes this works as far as building a custom firmware. HOWEVER, this will not work for a new/fresh 3GS that has not previously been pwned or jailbroken. If you got a new phone with 3.1.3 and the new modem firmware on it, or if you upgraded to Apple stock 3.1.3, this WILL NOT WORK.

Why? You cannot do the "select a custom firmware" step. You may be able to build the custom firmware, but as to getting it on the phone through iTunes, forget about it. You cannot do the option+restore command. Out of luck.

So sad. :(

Exactly.
The guide is confusing people.
You cannot JB a 3GS thats already on 3.1.3 no matter what you try to use.
And you cant downgrade it to 3.1.2 to JB it unless you have your SHSH's stored locally or on cydia.

I'm surprised that iClarified wouldn't have caught this. I'd suggest giving them feedback.

They are very stubborn about changing their tutorials. Even after Apple stopped signing 3.1.2, they refused to take the "restore to 3.1.2 firmware" step out of the beginning of their tutorial despite frequent feedback that it was confusing people. I don't know how many people posted on here saying they couldn't get past step 2 and needed us to tell them they could just skip that step.

I should have clarified. I own an iPhone 3GS from June of 2009, so its on 3.0.1, and has never been JB before. But its in NOT new, hence not on 3.1.3, rather on 3.0.1. Will I be able to follow this tutorial and successfully Jailbreak my device?

Thanks!!

You can jailbreak 3.0.1 with Redsn0w, then use Pwnage Tool to build a custom restore 3.1.2 IPSW and use iTunes to install it.
