I thinking of getting a hold of this laptop...

The dude is asking for $450.... Is that a good price? This is his description: It's a 2008 Macbook Pro (non-Unibody) with:

2.4GHz Core 2 Duo
6GB DDR2 667 MHz ram
128GB Crucial M4 SSD
15" 1440x900 Matte screen
Nvidia Geforce 256MB 8600M GT graphics
Backlit keyboard
Webcam
Superdrive

Any advice?

It's a GeForce 8600m GT model. Those are notorious for the GPU failing. Once that happens the computer is worthless. It's just a ticking time bomb.

I wouldn't touch it for any price. Nor any other model revision with that GPU.

Isn't Apple still repairing/replacing those motherboards?

If you're not concerned about having the pinnacle of performance, that computer might be a good deal.

According to the current owner, he said that the dude he bought it from got the board replaced by Apple...

But here's the actual deal: We're gonna do a trade... I'm giving up this laptop and some cash for that MBP....

We haven't agreed on how much cash I have to shell out yet....

What are some of your thoughts on this "deal"??
