Is this normal? iPhone mail

Everytime I go to open mail it says connection to server failed, so i have to exit the app, then I go to open it again, and the whole phone freezes until i restart it.

I use yahoo and that never happens to me.
At first I thought, maybe you weren't getting service for some reason.
But then you mentioned the app crashing so you may have to restore from back up or do a complete restore.

First of all, the whole phone freezing is not a normal thing. I would try setting up the AOL client again by going into Settings>Mail, Contacts, Calenders> Then your mail account, then hit the delete button. Hope it helps.

i tried this already, and i really dont want to do a restore

Then restore from backup.
