I'm new to Macs and have noticed that on my 2017 MacBook Pro if I disconnect AC power it correctly reduces screen brightness. However, the reverse isn't true. When I plug it back in the screen remains at the on-battery brightness setting. I have to manually put it back. Is that normal? My Windows laptops all return to full brightness when you plug them back in. Thanks

I have an older MBP but the functionality should be the same. On mine, the brightness does come back to normal when I plug it back in but after a delay of about 1 second.

Not normal on my new MacBook. Mine brightens up again. Sure you aren't mistaken? Wouldn't it get darker and darker every time you unplugged it if that were the case?

If you don't want the screen to get darker, open System Preferences and click on Energy Saver. Then under the Battery tab, un-tick 'Slightly dim the display while on battery power'.
