I got the iphone 3g s and its my first iphone. I notice that when I make a call, the sceen goes to sleep mode or at least darks out but then I try to awaken it while I'm talking but it doesn't do anything. This is frustrating especially when I need to use the the keypad. Should I take it to an apple store to see whats up or is there something I can do with the settings?

Make sure that you are not covering up the iPhone where the ear piece is at. There is a proximity sensor that will turn the screen off when something is close so that when you are on a call, you don't push buttons with your face.

Totally normal.

The screen goes to sleep to stop you pressing buttons with your face :)

There may be something wrong with your proximity sensor. There is a proximity sensor on the left side of the ear speaker. It detects when you face is close and blanks the screen to make sure your face doesn't press a button. If yours isn't reawakening when your face is a foot or more away, by itself, there may be a problem with your proximity sensor.

thanks, I know what it was....you see, I am waiting for my iskin case and so I still have the plastic that it came with on the iphone. It was that!!!

Did not know anything about the sensor.

BTW, I love this phone!

That would explain it :)

I've heard of people very carefully cutting a hole out for the sensors/ microphone to stop this from happening while waiting for a case.

Also, to see the sensors, tilt the phone in direct light. Sunlight is best, and you'll see 3 little red light looking things. Those are your sensors. You cant really see them in flourescent lighting.

They are your ambient light sensors, proximity sensors, and your front facing camera. lol I wish :p
