Hey guys, I have a 2010 15" MBP currently with 4GB of RAM.

I recently installed a virtual machine and have noticed that my computer does get slower. Also I do notice that when I have multiple programs open, I get beachballs for a few seconds. I am hoping that 8GB of Ram would solve my problems.

here is the ram I am looking to buy http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231297

When I have my VM running, I usually have about 80Mb Free and 800 Inactive

I don't know what RAM you're talking about because of the link you put up, but I buy all my RAM from Crucial. They have an excellent track record in my book, and they manufacture their own memory. They're memory is also quite affordable.

Wow, do not know how the apple event link got there....

Anyways the right link is up now.

Ill check out crucial, but I think this is cheap? 200$ w/shipping. I remember 4 months ago they were like $400

Are there any true differences between these two DIMMs? I have a Fall 2008 Alu MacBook 5,1 (2.4Ghz) that I want to upgrade to 6GB.

This link specifies that it is compatible with models that support 6GB, but it is $20 more.

This link specifies that it is for the newer models that support 8GB.

As far as I can tell, they are the same. However, both the serial numbers and price differ. Do the older aluminum machines use the same type of RAM found in the newer models?

I ended up buy the G-Skill 8 GB for 225$ with the fastest shipping option.

I PM'd a few members here who also bought it and they said it was great.

WOW you are crazy. I have MBP 15" model 5,3. I got mine from OWC. Nu-ram 8gb kit cost me 160-170 all together. no problems at all, works great.

Why even ask which you should buy if you dont have the patience to wait for all our answers and get a deal?

Did you get the G-Skill ram I posted? Because it's the same ram newegg labels as apple G-Skill and charge $40.00 extra. If you got the one you posted then you got ripped off.

G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Laptop Memory Model F3-8500CL7D-8GBSQ = $146.49

vs

G.SKILL 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3 1066 (PC3 8500) Memory for Apple Model FA-8500CL7D-8GBSQ= $181.99

Notice the model numbers are the same. Newegg rebranded the same ram as Apple ram and charged extra. You got ripped.

I got the impression since the OP was in Canada OWC was not an option for him.

FYI, bought the same ram module last week for $134 plus free shipping from newegg. It was on sale. I just installed an hour ago and it is working great so far..
