Is this safe Terminal code?

I'm trying to install the Doctor Who Adventure Games (I live outside the UK, and as far as I can tell, they aren't releasing the Mac versions outside the UK), and so I'm running into some location difficulties. I found this guide, but it involves fiddling with Terminal, which I'm not very familiar with.

I was wondering if that's safe code, and are there any repercussions to doing it? Also, it has that little note about visiting the BBC site, how do I remove the entry from the host site?

Yeah, that's completely benign. To remove the hosts entry, just run the pico command again and erase the added line.
