Looking to add a few HD's to my Mac Pro and Just wanted to make sure I was ordering the correct ones: Going with WD only because of the noise issues (clanking) people have raised with the segate drives...

Western Digital Caviar SE16 WD5000AAKS 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM

Would you feel comfortable ordering an open box from newegg to save $20 on each drive?

That's the right drive. Go for it.

I would trust Newegg. They are a solid company.

Go to xlr8yourmac.com and look at the top of the page. They mention a deal at OWC, 500GB drives for $99.00 until 08/31/07.

It looks like that deal is for the Maxtor.. I think I am going to stick with the WD500 from new egg for 109... Is it worth the extra $30.00 to go the RE version. I think the MTBF is longer.. maybe this drive is designed for a RAID set up.. overkill you think?
