I have installed the GM build number 12A365 into my iPhone 5C and iPad Air. For tomorrow's release, is it gonna be the same build? Do I have to reload my phones again?

Apple have already said that Shazam-Siri integration will be restored in the public release which it wasn't in the GM. Also there is the possibility that raise to speak will be restored, again that wasn't in the GM.

It's not always.

Although iOS 7 GM and public had the same build number.

How could it possibly NOT be the same on an iOS device - especially for a .0 release? I could see it not being the same on an OS X build since OS X releases don't typically correlate with hardware releases, but on iOS I don't see how that's possible.

They released the GM to the developers on September 9, ten days before the new iPhones will be in the hands of customers on September 19. The new iPhones would have needed to have iOS 8 installed on them at the factory, packaged for shipment, etc. long before the GM was released on September 9.

Apple may very well release 8.0.1 in the next 1-3 days alongside 8.0 to fix bugs that were found after the 8.0 GM build was given to the factory for installation (probably sometime in the mid to end of August), but I don't see how there is any way that the GM build released a week ago could NOT match what's installed on the phones or what's officially released to the public tomorrow.

iOS 6 had different build numbers iPhone and iPod touches were on newer builds

There are the weird caveats of raise to speak and Shazam integration that are absent from the GM that Apple has allegedly said will be included in public release....

But I do expect 8.0.1 to land on Friday when iPhone 6 officially launches.

So what would happen for us people running the GM if the build number of tomorrow's release is different? Would we receive an update or not until 8.0.1?

I believe they released iOS 7.0.1 last year on the same day as iOS 7 release but was for iPhone 5s only. so I'm expecting either iOS 8 and iOS 8.0.1 being released for the iPhone 6 and 6+ tomorrow or 8.0.1 for everyone tomorrow.

If you have an iPad, I'd recommend you turn off the device until maybe 5 pm PDT (8 pm EDT). That way, you won't tie up your broadband connection downloading an 800-900 MB file that is the iOS 8.0 update.

If that were to happen, regardless of build number, if the version is still 8.0, no update would appear available. 8.0.1 however would show as an available OTA update from the GM.
