I love the speed of iMovie HD (iLife '08) for doing quick projects (AE and FCP when more time is allowed); likewise, I can't stand iMovie (iLife '09) and really don't know what they were thinking (as if iMovie HD wasn't simple enough).

Just bought a new MacBook Pro and was hoping I could finagle bringing over iMovie HD to it for above reasons. But alas, after installing Rosetta like it asked, it won't stay open and crashes every time upon opening.

Is this possible?

There is a way to install imovie HD without having to install ilife 08.

*download the imovie HD dmg
*open it, right click on iMovieHD6.pkg-->Show package contents
*new Folder will open up, double click on the folder Contents
*look for Archive.pax.gz, double click it and it will unarchive automatically
*where ever it unarchived it to, look for Archive-->Applications-->iMovie HD
*open it to make sure it work, then move it where you want
*pin it to the dock if you want

Worked perfectly. So happy now!:D

search on youtube for "iMovie HD 6.0.4 '06 for iLife users hack"

it brings up a video with annoying music (happy happy joy joy) with all the relevant info to install. there is also a video that shows how to get the imovie HD themes.

a shame that apple discontinued this great program! i would be glad to pay for it if apple would continue to develop it.
