Hi,
I'd like to upgrade my OCZ Vertex 4 256GB SSD to a Samsung 840 (non pro) 512GB SSD and I'd like to know if it is necessary to enable TRIM on such an SSD. I'm asking this because with OCZ Vertex 4 it is suggested not to enable it, because Vertex 4 has its own garbage collecting mechanism and TRIM may interfere or give you issues (kernel panics etc).

Thank you for any help

The 840 also has its own garbage collection, so TRIM is not a requirement, but it is desirable. If you can get TRIM working without causing system instability, it is a good idea.

Ok, so it seems different from the OCZ Vertex 4 mechanism: OCZ support reccomended me not to enable TRIM because it was not necessary and could only increase instability. Thank you for the answer.
