should I buy a thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter? I want to download OS X Mavericks and clean install it on my rMBP. I remember an iOS app needed to be downloaded via Ethernet to work correctly and users that used WiFi had problems with the app, I don't know whether that was a bug of iOS or because of WiFi that caused this issue. My internet connection is very slow and it takes 6 hours to download OS X. So can WiFi corrupt downloaded files?

WiFi is fine, and newer MBPs have solid WiFi adapters. The problem will be on your router's end if you have problems - consider a newer AC router.

Otherwise, a good ol' ethernet cable will always be rock solid. Personally, I leave that to my desktop... I bought a MBP to have something portable.

I use both and both are reliable. The ethernet adapter gives me fast performance but at times I'm on wifi and that's very stable and I've not had issues.
