Hi,
I need some advice to replace my Macbook Pro.

I have Macbook Pro early 2011, i5, and a user-installed 256 GB SSD. It's almost 9 years that I've been using this MBP.
Recently my MBP is showing some issues: it doesn't charge properly and scrolling by itself.

I have already upgraded my MBP to High Sierra which is the highest OS Version of MBP'11) but unfortunately some apps are not longer running on this OS, such as iMovie, Keynote, Final cut. Those apps require the latest OS. This makes me think that I should replace to newer one. And the main problem is Aidrop. I can't send my files from Macbook to my Iphone X through Airdrop.

I need a recommendation and advice which Macbook I should Buy. My concern of buying Macbook Air: Is Macbook Air good for editing video and photo? Recently I am editing video and photos with my MBP'11.

Should I buy Macbook Pro or Macbook Air?

Thanks in advance.

How often are you editing photos and videos - if it’s your profession and critical to your livelihood - going Pro is a no brainer. If you are a prosumer who only occasionally dabbles in editing you will be able to get it done with a MBA and a bit of patience.

I moved from a MBP 2011 i5 (10GB RAM, 512GB SSD) to the new MBA 2020 i3 base model.
Photo editing using Apple Fotos app works fast and fine, no video editing for me.
According to benchmarks the MBA 2020 i3 is about twice as fast as MBP 2011 i5.

I am happy with the new MBA.
I like the small form factor and the retina display and the performance is sufficient for me, no issues at the moment.
