Static (choose my own) wifi channel =
  • Constantly lose iPhone wifi connection for a split second every few seconds
  • Takes longer to load data due to unreliable connection
  • Macbook wifi faster/reliable because I pick an empty channel

Auto wifi channel selection =
  • Reliable iPhone wifi connection
  • Slower Macbook wifi because it sometimes picks a congested channel with neighbor's wifi on it

I use Netgear N300 router.

Are you using 2.4 or 5 GHz?

I get the same speed on my router/access points, on static channel or auto.
I assume that you have tried rebooting the router.

I've seen that N300 router go for as low as $21.00, and as high as $40.00. May be time for an upgrade...The days of being able to get buy with an inexpensive router are gone...To many devices, and to many networks in close proximity.
