I mean... 90% design capacity after 6 months? What will it be in 2 years? I maxed that baby to keep it for a while. Not very happy at the moment.

It's my first MBP, how are yours?

Some batteries are bad and put in, your battery may just be a bad one. That's why you get  care and use your 1 year warranty. My 2009 mbp battery is still at 85% and my 2017 mbp is at 100% now ;(

HeyQueenTyrone,

I went to Apple Store and told them, they ran their little program to check the battery and said it was in fact at 93% and that it was "normal" for them and not enough to replace it. They said it has to drop to 80% before they can replace the battery, which is ridiculous. I don't know what I can do about it now. I love the computer but damn, it just feels wrong.

I'm confused. It says 2015 laptop but manufactured 6 months ago? Where did you get the computer from, could have had a battery replacement? Might be worth a PWM reset or whatever.

This was a replacement during the Xmas returns window. Absolutely fine 8 odd months on. A lot depends on how you use the battery however, if you're doing anything in an attempt to prolong the life of it then stop, you'll only be doing it more harm than good. And if you've done 100 cycles in 6 months then you're pushing it pretty hard, they're rated for 500 and you'll hit that in 2.5 years at this rate.

Correct, they rate it to be 80% capacity at 500 cycles. So there's nothing unusually wrong with your battery. As I said you seem to be pushing it fairly hard. So how are you using it?

Hey man,

I use it normally I'd say. Nothing crazy, but a cycle is no way near 100% discharge + recharge. If I use it for only 20-30% (so my battery stays at 70-80%) it will register it as a cycle when it hits 100% again.

It was a BTO that I ordered online and Apple used to sell the 13" 2015 MBP until about the month of April 2017.

6x30 is 180, if it's his only pc then that's actually less than how many charges it *should* be. Seems he just uses his laptop till it hits sub 20%, if you think 100 is a lot my 7+ is at 400 cycles and still 91% and I got it in October.

That's not how it works. If you use 50% then charge it to full, then use 50% again and charge it to full, then it counts as 1 cycle https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201585. Also I see it's rated for 1000 not 500 sorry.

I thought they discontinued the 13" when the 2016 came out? Only selling the 15" model? Fair enough, anyway it's all within normal.

Phones will always use more cycles as you're using it on battery the majority of the time. Laptops are usually plugged in if next to a power outlet so will usually have less cycle count. I swapped the battery on my 6 two months ago and it's rocking a nice 69 cycles; it's about 1 a day.

There is often considerable variance between individual batteries, and Coconut Battery is not necessarily accurate, as you have observed. It's also not unusual for health metrics to fluctuate - sometimes quite a good bit. That said, it appears your battery may be on the weaker side - manufacturing, transport, storage, and usage conditions can all factor into this.

Are you currently seeing noticeably decreased run times? (it may be hard to answer this question if you did not run a battery runtime test when the system was new.)

If you have AppleCare, this is probably not worth worrying about until you do see drastically reduced runtimes. If you do not have AppleCare, then it might be worth going back to Apple in 3-4 months and having them perform their own battery test again (they can then compare the results of your recent one to this future one) - if by this point the battery has degraded further at a pace more rapid than the expected drop, it might be worth chatting with a service manager about having it replaced before the 1 year warranty expires - even if it isn't quite at that 80% threshold.

IMO, .. not sure if you are doing this but I would not let it get below 30% before charging.. it happens but if near power no need to not have it plugged in most of the time. In my case, I cannot leave mine plugged in unattended as I live in the lighting capital of the country.

They were manufacturing them up until probably April/May just before they were discontinued in June '17, but were still models introduced in 2015.

I really would take these battery apps with a big pinch of salt. Unless you start seeing noticeably worse battery life, the battery is probably performing normally, don't obsess over it, just use it.
