So last week I traded a Dell for a PowerMac G4, it came with a Pro Mouse and Keyboard, both white! Yay! Both from a smoker's home! BOOO!
But hey, all of our hardware is turning yellow! My Super Nintendo, your Commodore 64, my Super Soakers...and like most people you want to feel like you're back in the days when Michael Jackson was doing sell out concerts and neon colors were the most stellar looks for any pair of kicks!
*Candid snapshot of 1993*
At any rate, that beige look just makes you feel like your Amiga was in the attic while you were slowly growing closer to death...or divorce...
Well, in search of a way to make my keyboard white again, I desperately combed the webs and saw everything from Comet, which would abrade the surface, and bleach, which would embrittle your plastic.
I've found the miracle solution, and it goes by the name Retr0bright! The name and solution are completely open!
The site shares a formula that can be "painted on" because it is thinned by a gum or corn syrup, however you can simply soak your parts in a liquid solution as well.
Here's what I've done.
Parts List:
A bin or bucket to contain the liquid AND allow the part to be fully submerged
The parts that need to be age-reversed (separate from the rest of the case)
Hydrogen Peroxide at LEAST 3%
Oxygen activated cleaner, Oxi Clean or Oxi Azul if you want to work cheap
Sunlight or a POWERFUL UV Lamp
All I did was fill a cat litter box (it was NEW!) with a thourough mix of Peroxide and OxiAzul, about 2 table spoons FULL for the whole 16oz Peroxide bottle. DON'T MIX the Oxygen cleaner until you're ready to dip your parts.
I left the parts fully submerged in the liquid with the yellowed parts facing the sun. After only 45 minutes I saw a tiny difference, 2 hours total and VIOLA!

It doesn't embrittle the plastic! And only took 2 hours of a noon sun, I would imagine it takes less in the day! Give it a try but try it in an inconspicuous part of your piece. It doesn't rub away any writing but decals are different. If you have a commodore with painted badging, it won't damage it.
Thanks SO much, Retr0bright, I would have pulled my hair out trying to whiten these key caps!
Edit Oxygen cleaner must be in powder form
