my macbook pro's (Core 2 Duo) isight camera works fine until I plug in my external monitor.

Case 1) If the camera is on when I plug in the monitor, the camera will keep working, but if I shut it down it won't fire back up (ichat, google plus hangout).

Case 2) If the camera is off when I plug in the monitor, the camera will not start up at all.

I have tested this repeatedly, I can use the camera repeatedly, but if I simply close a camera using app, plug in the monitor, and open the camera using app back up, the camera will not work.

Only a reboot will fix the problem.

I have tested this immediately after a reboot with only safari running, launching google plus's hangout. no other apps are running.

Does anyone have any idea why this is happening, and what I can do to fix the camera other than rebooting?

thanks,

Sid

ASUS VE 278 - connected directly via DVI.

I'll try with a different monitor later today when my bookkeeper leaves for the day. Thanks for the thought. And test via VGA connector also.
