Hello.
It's probably a stupid question, but seeing how Apple helps the minorities, such as people of colour and women to teach them coding and and helping on the tech field, I was wondering why won't they help people with disabilities? Such as people with schizophrenia, learning disabilities and generally physically disabled.
When I went to school and learned coding I did one of my job practices teaching children with learning disabilities and they were doing great. I taught them coding in Unity and my classmate taught them drawing and we made a game.

Years ago, and I mean almost a decade ago, I used to know a girl in a wheelchair and she couldn't find a job as a programmer. We weren't sure, but ti was probably because she was in the wheelchair. She became a freelancer and stopped talking to me when she found a boyfriend, so I don't know how she's doing. She was probably my friend, because she couldn't find any other friends, but that's another topic.

Unfortunately enough, I've also seen people that suffer from schizophrenia getting fired as soon as something happens or someone finds out about it.

So how come Apple left out the disabled people? And not only disabled people, but what about older people? Some companies won't even hire programmers if they are 40 for example.

My first instinct was that Apple cares about only what's trendy, like most of the other companies. Also, I'm from Europe, but I don't see how women have it worse than men or how black people have it worse than white people. I know black people earning more than me, and sure, there's discrimination, but there's discrimination towards all of the foreigners. I'm a white guy, but I'm an immigrant and I've been discriminated against many times as well. People have insulted me and much worse has happened.

Anyway, tell me your thoughts.

Here are a couple of starting points if you want to explore this topic:

Give me more.

IDK. I assumed that the whole Accessibility section in Settings (Mac, iPad, iPod, iPhone) was to help those with disabilities.

When my wife and I went into the Apple store in 2013 to get her an iPhone 5 the Apple genius that helped us and sold us the phone was completely blind.

I meant why not help them to get into technology, teach programming to them etc.

There are still huge statistical biases against women and people of colour in the upper echelons of management and in many professional jobs. Helping disabled people is not mutually exclusive with helping women and minorities to have an even playing field. And I note that disabled people can be women or people of colour, which compounds matters... When studying to be a physician my kid was subjected to manifestly illegal behaviour from her university (in the UK) regarding a disability, only to face sex discrimination in her subsequent medical training from jackass senior male surgeons. We think we've come so far....

Anyway, I am not sure what Apple is doing to integrate people with disabilities into employment, but it would indeed be interesting to know. I do appreciate Apple's accessibility features in the OS's. They're not quite as advanced as dedicated accessibility software and hardware, but in a pitch I can get things done with Apple's default accessibility features.

One more thing: I did suggest to Arn that MacRumors create a forum for accessibility issues for Apple hardware and software so this information could be in one place rather than spread across other topics, but alas nothing came of it.
