Issue in copying text from pdf files

Hi,
I am new to mac platform and I have some issues in copying text from pdf files. When I select some text in pdf files and paste into 'TextEdit" (also in other editors like iphone sdk), it showing strange content ( kinda binary characters ). I opened the pdf file in Adobe Reader and also in Preview.. but the problem is same. Also, I checked the pdf file's properties, it allowing content extraction / copying. This problem exists only with this particular pdf file.
Please suggest me what could be the problem. Thanks a lot!.
