I have a Canon Digital Rebel XTi, and have uploaded photos for several years without problems. (I don't have a CF card reader—I just plug the camera into the computer via a USB cord.)

But suddenly the computer doesn't recognize the camera: that is, the camera doesn't show up in iPhoto, or the desktop, or anywhere else. And the camera doesn't recognize the computer: it operates normally despite being plugged in, whereas the CF light would usually turn solid and the screen would go dark as the photos began their transfer.

I'm running Yosemite, and though I've tried a software update—I now have "Photos" instead of iPhoto—that didn't seem to help.

My brother's laptop, which is identical to mine, is able to upload photos from this exact camera without problems. Any suggestions?
