I just purchased an iMac (new Apple computer user). When ordering it, I requested an Apple Wireless French keyboard, as I had an Apple Wireless British keyboard, which I had previously purchased for use with my IPad (I thought it would be nice to have a different format keyboard for my daughter to use when doing her French homework).

I would like my existing British keyboard to act as my primary keyboard when using the IMac, I am used to the layout. To change my preference, I went to "System Preferences" added my British Keyboard to Bluetooth using "Keyboard" and have gone to "Language and Text - Input Sources" and checked British and unchecked French as the Input Source.

All of this worked, I can use my British Keyboard/format with the Imac, except when I shut the iMac off, and try to enter my account password to start-up the computer, the computer only recognises the French keyboard layout.

Could someone tell me how to fix this problem, as I would prefer the Imac to recognise the British keyboard layout when entering the start-up account password (the French keyboard was supposed to be just a keyboard to be used for occasional use).

Many thanks.

After spending the day trying different things, I found the solution on Apple's webasite - S X Lion instructions

From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Click Users & Groups to display the pane (or choose User & Groups from the View menu).
If the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the window is closed, click it, then enter the name and password of an administrator to unlock it.
Click Login Options.
Select the "Show Input menu in login window" checkbox.
From the Apple menu, choose Log Out.
At the login window, click the Input menu (shows the name of the currently selected input source next to a keyboard icon) in the upper-right corner of the screen, then select the desired input source or keyboard layout. If you don't see the input source you are looking for, move the pointer over Other Input Sources, then select the input source from the complete list that appears.

Phewwwwww......
