Issue with a Word item

I have a MacBook Snow Leopard OS X 10.6.7, with MS Office 2008 installed. My problem showed itself just this last week, when I tried to click on the "Drawing" toolbar. As soon as I clicked it, the program FROZE. I have to shut the computer clear down and reboot from the beginning. I can't do anything having to do with drawing in Word without it's freezing. The only thing that moves is the little multi-colored wheel that turns in circles, unless I move the cursor off the program and onto a blank spot on the screen. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!
