I'm visiting family right now and everyday I go too start my MacBook up. It turns on I login in then it turns off when I push and hold the power button I get a red battery with a lighting logo flashing. I waited the first time the second time I did a smc reset then it turned on. The room temp is 64f when it turned back on checked the temps the palm rest showed 18c. Is the reason for this likely that it's too cold?

2015 MacBook Pro 15"

battery. was at 100% each time

18c = 64f
Why would you use the power button to turn your MBPro off?
Use the Apple menu/Shutdown..., or just hold control, then press and release the power button. You get a shutdown dialog window. Press enter shutdown from there.

But, really, why do you need to shutdown? Just close the lid - it sleeps when you do that, eh?

I didn't use the power button to turn it off. I tried to turn it back on. The issue is it turned itself off

How is the battery health? The red battery with a lightning bolt means it needs to be connected to a charger before it will boot.
battery health is at 76 percent with only 288 charges. I never had issues before until I came here. I thought it could be the cold but apple says it should be good down to 50f.

Batteries eventually wear out.
You have a ~5 year-old battery.
76% battery health is pretty low. 288 charge cycles, through 5 years of use, so I'm betting that you don't usually use your MBPro on battery, and it's usually plugged in. Am I correct about that?
It's probably time to think about replacing the battery.
How long do you get on battery now until you see the low battery warning?

OP:

Do you have a brick-n-mortar Apple Store anywhere nearby?
If so, I'd make an appt. for the genius bar, and take it to them.

You ought to be able to have the Apple Store replace the battery.
The price SHOULD BE $199 (includes parts and labor).

For that you get:
- a new Apple battery
- installation
- a short warranty.

A pretty good deal, when you think about it.
