I'm sure you guys get questions about the quality of the built-in mic all the time.

I used my built-in mic all the time, and the quality was absolutely great. Surprisingly so, for a built-in. I had turned off the noise reduction and that was all I needed. The mic didn't pick up my fans, and it just sounded... good.

I recently updated from 10.6.8 to 10.8.3 and I'm quite happy with it - except, it seems settings have been changed up... And my mic quality is now pretty low. Random clicks are popping up randomly in my recordings, noise reduction was back on by default, and it sounds like I'm underwater. (this is in garageband, by the way)

I feel like I should still be able to get the good quality, if I find the settings to change - the only problem is, I can't seem to find any additional settings in my system prefs (and even I did find them, I'm not sure what I could change to fix it)

Anyone able to help a bit?

(also a bit unrelated, but is it just me or does the Library folder in the User directory missing?)
