Hey guys,
Have had this issue before, but can't for the life of me remember how I fixed it.
I am running a 27" iMac (not sure what generation.)
Processor - Intel Core2 Duo 3.06GHz
RAM - 4GB
OS- Lion
Other Info- Panasonic surround sound system, Pioneer HDJ-1000 headphones.
Problem:
Ok so I am an amateur music producer, and use Ableton Live 8. The problem was first made obvious when I imported a kickdrum sample into Ableton, the first couple of milliseconds the sound was delayed, ie missing the important part of the Kickdrum (the kick). I don't think this is a latency or buffer issue within Ableton because to begin with I have played around with that a lot to try and solve this and has had no effect at all - for better or worse.
So my next point of call was to see if the samples were being played correctly through itunes, and the mac os previewer (by clicking the file and pressing spacebar). This same error occured. Which is what lead me to believe it is not settings in Ableton.
I then tried unplugging my Surround sound system - which is connected via an optical cable, and plugging my headphones directly into the audio output on mac. To my surprise, the samples played with absolutely no problem or latency.
This lead me to believe it must have been my surround sound system. So I rebooted my mac, plugged my surround sound back in and played a sample - this also played without any problem.
I then went back to Mac OS and opened my Activity monitor while doing this and CPU usage was still very low, so I have ruled that out of a possible cause.
Due to Ableton being an expensive program, and I only have it for Mac OS, I pretty much need to get this working in Mac OS, and can't just use Windows 7. I also have a lot of plugins that I have purchased for Ableton on Mac so it would be an extremely costly process to simply convert to Windows.
I will like to point out also, that this problem kind of just "started" happening at random. There was no real trigger point that could have caused it that I can recall.
Anyway I hope someone on here has experienced / can help me out with this issue. I remember fixing it a long time ago but I can't for the life of me remember how I did it.
