Hi,

My friend recently bought a Macbook Pro 13 inch this past Tuesday and she was concerned with the audio jack.

She's coming from a 2006 White Macbook and she told me that she was not able to plug in the headphones that she previously used on the White Macbook. I figured there would be no real changes in the jack size so I asked her to try other headphones in case and she told me she plugged in 2 other headphones but no sound was coming out.

After hearing this I told her to just go to the Mac store and ask someone from the genius bar. I figured it was an issue with her MBP 13 but she didn't believe me so I told her to try the headphones she was testing before and use it on a MBP 13 display to see if it would fit or if sound came out which it did.

She told me the two guys at the genius bar forced the headphones into the jack with a lot of pressure and it made a pop sound. They then confirmed after that point that there is no issue with the sound jack and that it was the customer's personal issue of not being able to use enough force to push in the headphones (she was worried that it might break or something).

I decided to look at her Macbook after they did this and I tried several different headphones and they all have the same issue. When I plug in the headphones I know there is a usual delay in when the sound stops coming out of the speakers and then into the headphones but it would usually be 2-3 seconds. It has taken an average of 6-7 seconds and the headphones easily go in now but it seems like they are all loose and easily come out.

I have a Macbook Pro 17 '09 and it takes about 2 seconds for the audio to switch. So I was wondering is this a specific to the 13 inch MBP or the 13 MBP '10? They would not let her switch it out even though she was not satisfied with the audio jack and their diagnostic. What should she do?
