Issue with PowerMac G5 Dual 1.8 Processor

I have noticed that while I'm typing, my desk top icons (not the dock) and menu bar will flash and I lose my typing curser. When I open a file and the "flash" happens, it closes and when I'm playing a game and this happens, my game will go into "Pause" mode. Is this a Hardware problem?
