issue with upgrade to os 4.2.1 for iphone 3G

I recently purchased an unlocked and jailbroken iphone 3G off ebay. I updated via itunes and discovered my phone locked and no longer jailbroken. I was able to jailbeak and unlock with os 4.2.1; however, when I placed my sim card in the phone, it continued to search for service. I am currently with Cincinnati Bell. Any help would be much appreciatted.

Have you inserted your sim in the right position? Get a sim card which the phone recognizes it without unlock, if it not recognizes it, there is a big problem with your phone.

I placed it in correctly. I am guessing that the new update is so new that the unlocking software has not caught up with the technology.
