I thought this would be an easy process but it's not working. My TV only has one HDMI port and it's already in use connecting to my Direct TV DVR. But luckily my TV also has a DVI input.
So, I purchased an Apple display port to DVI cable from Apple and then a DVI to DVI cable from cableclub.com. I connected them up and the Macbook immediately recognized the second monitor. You can see it in the System Preferences and can select mirrored displays and so forth. Also, the resolution on the Macbook changes when the connection is made. However, the TV doesn't show anything.
It's a Sharp Aquos TV. The instruction manual clearly shows how you can connect a computer to the DVI input. I've tried putting the Macbook to sleep and then waking it up and so forth, but no luck .
The Sharp has some options in the setup menu for the DVI connection. They are Digital PC, Analog PC, Digital AV and Analog AV. I've tried them all and none work.
Any ideas? Hopefully I didn't buy the cable and adapter for nothing.
