After every update or big install, I repair disk permissions and run sudo periodic daily/weekly/monthly

- disk permissions won't start (I just get the "starting up" loading bar)

- and, while sudo periodic daily/monthly work, sudo periodic weekly won't finish. I had to close terminal halfway through the process (which I hope won't incur any further problems)

anyone having similar issues or have any recommendations?
